What is the South Sudan Health Financing Strategy and how does it affect health informatics?
I have been hearing about health financing reforms in South Sudan, including discussions about health insurance. How do these reforms affect the work of health informatics professionals?

Health financing reforms, including the development of a national health insurance scheme, have significant implications for health informatics. Health insurance requires: unique patient identification systems; electronic health records to document services provided; claims management systems to process insurance claims; fraud detection systems to prevent abuse; and data analytics to monitor utilisation and costs. Health informatics professionals will play a central role in designing and managing these systems as South Sudan develops its health financing infrastructure.
SSHIA is engaging with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance on health financing reform to ensure that health informatics considerations are incorporated into the design of new financing systems. Members who have expertise in health financing informatics are encouraged to contribute to these discussions through SSHIA.
