Based on the South Sudan Health Sector Development Plan and national health policy documents, the key health policy priorities for the next five years include: reducing maternal and child mortality; strengthening disease surveillance and response; expanding access to essential health services, particularly in rural areas; developing the health workforce; strengthening health financing; and improving health information systems. Health informatics professionals can contribute to all of these priorities by ensuring that health data is collected, managed, and used effectively to support evidence-based decision-making.
SSHIA publishes an annual health informatics policy brief that summarises the key health policy priorities and identifies opportunities for health informatics contributions. Members can access the brief in the portal under Resources > Policy Briefs. SSHIA also organises an annual policy dialogue event where members can engage directly with Ministry of Health officials and partners on health policy priorities.
