How can health informatics support mental health services in South Sudan?
Mental health is a significant but often neglected health issue in South Sudan, where conflict, displacement, and trauma have affected millions of people. How can health informatics support mental health services?

Health informatics can support mental health services in South Sudan by: integrating mental health data collection into the national health information system; developing electronic health records for mental health facilities; using mobile health tools for mental health screening and follow-up; and providing data for mental health policy and planning. Currently, mental health data is poorly captured in the South Sudan HMIS, making it difficult to assess the burden of mental health conditions and plan services.
SSHIA is advocating for the inclusion of mental health indicators in the national HMIS and for the development of a mental health information system that can capture data from both formal mental health services and community-based mental health programmes. Members who work in mental health are encouraged to contribute to this advocacy effort.
