How can South Sudan strengthen its health workforce information system?
South Sudan has a severe shortage of health workers and limited information about where health workers are located and what skills they have. How can the health workforce information system be strengthened?

Strengthening the health workforce information system requires: implementing iHRIS or a similar system to track health worker registration, deployment, training, and performance; establishing a health professional licensing and registration system; integrating health workforce data with payroll systems to ensure accurate salary payments; and using workforce data for planning and deployment decisions. The Ministry of Health, with support from WHO and partners, is working to strengthen the iHRIS system in South Sudan.
SSHIA advocates for a comprehensive health workforce registry that captures data on all health workers in South Sudan, including those working in the private sector, NGOs, and faith-based organisations. A complete workforce registry would enable better planning for health worker training, deployment, and retention. SSHIA offers training on iHRIS for health workforce planners and HR officers.
