I am optimistic about the future of health informatics in South Sudan. The country has a young, talented, and motivated health informatics workforce. With the right support and investment, South Sudan can build a health informatics ecosystem that is a model for other fragile states in Africa.
The key changes needed are: sustained government investment in health informatics infrastructure and human resources; stronger integration of health informatics into pre-service training; a supportive regulatory environment for digital health innovation; and stronger partnerships between government, civil society, academia, and the private sector. SSHIA has a critical role to play in advocating for and supporting all of these changes.
