How can health informatics professionals maintain their wellbeing while working in challenging environments?
Working in health informatics in South Sudan can be challenging — long hours, difficult working conditions, and the emotional weight of working in a country with significant health challenges. How can health informatics professionals maintain their wellbeing?

Maintaining wellbeing in challenging environments requires intentional self-care: setting boundaries between work and personal time; building a support network of colleagues and friends; engaging in physical activity and hobbies outside of work; seeking professional support when needed; and celebrating achievements, however small. SSHIA recognises the importance of wellbeing and is developing a member wellbeing programme that will provide resources and support for members facing burnout or mental health challenges.
Peer support is particularly valuable in challenging environments. Connecting with colleagues who understand the specific challenges of working in health informatics in South Sudan can provide both practical support and emotional validation. The SSHIA community discussion boards and WhatsApp groups are spaces where members can share challenges and support each other.
