What is the role of peer learning in health informatics professional development?
Formal training is important but peer learning — learning from colleagues — is also a powerful form of professional development. How can peer learning be structured and supported in the South Sudan health informatics community?

Peer learning can be structured through: communities of practice (groups of health informatics professionals who meet regularly to share knowledge and solve problems); peer mentorship pairs (two professionals at similar career stages who support each other development); journal clubs (groups that meet to discuss recent health informatics research); and case study discussions (groups that analyse real-world health informatics challenges and solutions). SSHIA facilitates several peer learning communities for members with shared interests.
Online platforms can support peer learning across geographic distances. The SSHIA community discussion boards are a form of peer learning — members share knowledge, ask questions, and learn from each other. SSHIA also has WhatsApp groups for different health informatics specialisations where members can share resources and ask questions in real time.
