Health informatics can improve cholera response in South Sudan through: real-time surveillance using DHIS2 and mobile reporting tools to detect outbreaks early; GIS mapping of cholera cases to identify transmission hotspots and guide response; electronic case management tools for cholera treatment centres; supply chain management for oral rehydration salts and IV fluids; and data analytics to identify risk factors and target prevention interventions. The WHO cholera surveillance guidelines provide a framework for cholera data management that can be implemented in DHIS2.

Early warning systems that integrate cholera surveillance data with environmental data (rainfall, flooding, water quality) can improve outbreak prediction and enable pre-emptive response. SSHIA is working with the Ministry of Health and WHO to develop a cholera early warning system for South Sudan that uses DHIS2 data and environmental indicators.
