JUBA — The South Sudan Health Informatics Association (SSHIA) is pleased to announce that its 2026 Annual National Health Informatics Conference will be held in Juba, bringing together practitioners, government, academia and development partners under the theme "Data for a Healthier South Sudan". The three-day conference — the association’s largest gathering to date — is expected to attract over six hundred delegates from all ten states and the three administrative areas, with satellite sessions planned in Wau, Malakal and Yambio.
The conference programme spans the full breadth of the discipline: plenary sessions on the national health information architecture; parallel technical tracks on DHIS2 mastery, data quality assurance, mobile data collection and analytics; a dedicated governance stream on health data protection, ethics and legislation; and a research forum where peer-reviewed studies from the association’s publication pipeline will be presented. A major exhibition hall will showcase digital health machines and tools from the association’s marketplace directory, alongside partner booths from UN agencies, NGOs and academic institutions.
New for 2026 are two flagship elements. The first is the National Data Challenge, a pre-conference competition in which county teams analyse their own routine data to propose service improvements, with finalists presenting to the full plenary and a cash award for the winning county’s health department. The second is a mentorship match-making lounge, where conference delegates can meet the association’s certified mentors and enroll in its structured mentorship cohorts on the spot.
Registration opens through the association’s training and events pages, with early-bird rates for members, discounted group registrations for county health departments, and a limited number of sponsored places for students and health workers from underserved counties. Abstract submissions for the research forum are invited on topics including data quality, health information system governance, digital health implementation, community-based information systems and health data ethics. The association particularly encourages submissions led by female researchers and by county-based practitioners — the people closest to the data.
Members of the press are invited to all plenary sessions and may arrange interviews with the association’s leadership through the communications office.
