Malaria Numbers Down is the association’s campaign against the country’s most persistent health burden, built on a premise the malaria community has long known: the disease is beaten locally, one transmission area at a time, and local victory requires local data. The campaign pairs malaria surveillance numbers with prevention action, helping counties and communities read their own malaria data — seasonality, age patterns, treatment uptake — and time their prevention efforts where and when the numbers say they matter most.The campaign’s centrepiece is the malaria data walk: a facilitated session where the county’s own malaria timeline for the past three years is laid out beside a calendar, revealing each area’s seasonal peak weeks before they arrive. Counties then plan around their curve — pre-positioning test kits ahead of the rise, scheduling net distribution and environmental actions before the rains, and alerting communities to the weeks when fever in a child should prompt immediate testing. In pilot counties, the data walk has shifted prevention from reactive to anticipatory, with facilities reporting earlier care-seeking once communities understood the season’s rhythm.Community materials carry the campaign’s plain messages: this is our malaria season; these are the weeks to sleep under a net every night; this is when a fever means test first, not wait. Facility teams receive simple trend cards each month showing whether their cases are rising or falling against the seasonal expectation — a quiet accountability that has proven surprisingly motivating for staff.The campaign partners with malaria programmes, county health departments and community networks, and measures itself by its own discipline: counties that complete the data walk, act before their peak, and see their numbers move.
